The Broward Center for the Performing Arts has added a Spanish-language version of its Web site, www.browardcenter.org, making it one of the first major performing arts centers in the U.S. to offer a bilingual Web site. Just click onto the "En Español" button, and – ¡Ahí lo tienes! There you have it!

With one simple click of the button, theatergoers will find exactly the same graphics and program information, with every word of the full English text translated into Spanish.

"The Spanish-speaking population in our region continues to grow and increasingly they represent a larger percentage of our audience," said Mark Nerenhausen, president and CEO of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. "Recently we surveyed our Hispanic patrons and discovered that although most of them are bilingual, they prefer to receive information in Spanish. We already have multilingual staff in our box office and in many other positions, so the translated Web site was the next logical step for us."

At first, the translation of the Web site from English to Spanish appeared to be both an expensive and time-consuming challenge to the Broward Center's marketing department. The discovery of MotionPoint, a Boca Raton-based technology company that translates and converts language from the original Web site, turned out to be a fast and cost-effective solution.

Linda Birdsey, Broward Center's marketing director, said, "The fact that MotionPoint could deliver a product that transformed our Web site seamlessly and required no IT time on our part was a big selling point."

Bonnie Tracy, director of ticketing services for the Broward Center, said Web site ticket sales have increased rapidly since the real-time, select-your-own-seat service was first introduced last year. Currently, more than 35 percent of the Broward Center's ticket sales are made through its Web site. Now, patrons who prefer to use Spanish can complete a sales transaction and learn all about the latest shows online.

Broward Center continues to update the English-language Web site as in the past while MotionPoint quickly updates the Spanish site using its expert professional translators and its proprietary TransMotion™ Computer Aided Translation tools. MotionPoint clients do not need additional hardware or software. Clients simply add an "En Español" button to their home page, and with just one mouse-click, the online customer can view the entire site in Spanish, with all the same artwork, banners, and information as on the original English site. The MotionPoint service is particularly well-suited for large, complex, and frequently changing e-commerce Web sites.
